All By Myself
I am God, all by myself. I don’t need any help. I can handle things on my own. I am the first and the last. Whatever you need, just ask. For I AM. I AM. I AM God. (Lyrics by Donald Lawrence)
I AM God! These were the lyrics to a song that has lifted me when life had become too heavy for me to bear. A song that I played every Sunday morning for years on my boombox (cassette form) as I prepared to go to church.
Then I would take the cassette and play it in my car. And when CD’s came out, I brought that too. And when I could carry music with me, on my iPod and then iPhone – it was there. Everywhere I went. I needed this song. As it was a constant reminder of who I was and to whom I belonged.
And why?
Because somehow, in my finite wisdom, I thought I could handle the affairs of my life on my own. But as I look back over my life, I can clearly see that it was the hand of God on my life, when I knew Him and when I did not. When I sought Him, and when I tried to hide from him. When He pursued me and when I ran the other way.
He is God. All by Himself. He does not need me or anyone for that matter to accomplish His will in the earth. But He chooses to use me. Chooses to use us.
Ask Mary. When the angel came to her to say she would bring forth the son of God. What did she say? Be it unto me according to your word. (Luke 1:38)
When Esther came before the King to request deliverance for her people, what did God use her uncle Mordecai to say to her, “who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
What about Moses? When God spoke to him out of a burning bush to lead the nation of Israel out of Egypt; though Moses objected and questioned his ability to influence the pharaoh, God used him anyway. (Exodus 3)
What’s your story? What has God done in your life that did not take a man or man-made thing to happen?
How about waking you up this morning? All God!
Being able to think, process, bathe and clothe yourself. All God!
Reading this blog right now without becoming confused. Yep. God again!
John 15: says Apart from Him we can do nothing. Why do we ever even think otherwise?
