My Journey Through Menopause As a teenager, my generation attained incomplete life skills.
We were told about puberty, but we were clueless about the latter part of our lives. I can still hear the sound of that 35-mm film reel, whirling round and round, sitting in Home Economics class, watching that infamous Fallopian tube cartoon. Our eyes were glued to the screen, as we went on the adventure of a female’s monthly visitor.
I entertained my visitor for many years, gave birth to a few children and was awaken by the end of the film flopping endlessly. Something strange was going on inside my body. I wasn’t myself, something unexplainable was happening. I paid the doctors a visit, I was on pins and needles as she ran some tests.
Weeks later, surprise the diagnosis- I had begun my journey through menopause. Menopause referenced as ‘the tunnel of no return’. But for me it was a wakeup call. It changed my perspective, it ushered me to pause with God. Spending time with Him was a priority...it is important. Though my journey is far from over, each day is an adventure.
As I continue to pause with God, I am receiving what can never be taken away.
Sheri Powell
Undeniably the sequel to Pausing with God: A Journey through Menopause, Sheri Powell has published her second book Pausing In His Presence: A Shut-In Experience. In both selections, Sheri reveals the importance of pausing with God.
In this precious follow up, she communicates in a simplistic manner. No matter what season of life we find ourselves in, when we pause in His presence; we can receive a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Before coming to the Lord, Sheri lived her life depending upon others to provide answers and solutions in areas of her life; that only God could solve. Sporadically visiting churches at a young age, she only knew of the Lord. A relationship with Jesus Christ did not manifest until April 12, 1989.
As she surrendered, God began to give her beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for all of her mourning, and the garment of praise for her heaviness. She became the planting of the Lord.
Sheri currently works full-time, but her love for decades has been in ministry - inside and outside the church walls. She has volunteered at a local Boys & Girls Club, was a children’s church leader, “Inner-City Sidewalk” Sunday School Teacher and a youth group leader.
In 2001, Sheri began utilizing the gifts and talents of the youth she mentored by hosting an annual “Mother & Daughter Prayer Breakfast”. Soon after, the Lord enlarged her territory. He drew her to the parents of the children, particularly the mothers.
In July 2008, the Lord gave Sheri a vision of women “shutting-in” with Him. She inquired of the Lord, comparable to what Moses did in Exodus 3, ‘Who am I, Lord that I should go and gather a group of women together?” Over the next two years, Sheri moved forward with the “shut-in” vision - to date, she has held well over forty (40) prayer gatherings.
Sheri has appeared on several television (Trinity Broadcast Network, Comcast – For Such A Time As This), and radio programs (Way Radio 550 AM on Conversations with Valmarie, WQSQ-LP 100.5 Let’s Talk with Dr. Deborah Godwin-Starks, 4 Points, Real Good Health with Dr. Pei Kang Boggess and Truth Network Radio show God, Where Were You When with Sherrie Clark).
Sheri is a member of the National Association of Professional Women. She also freelances articles for several magazines (Today’s Business Woman, Southern Writers Magazine, and Handmaidens in the Marketplace Magazine) in addition to monthly featured articles on the Pausing With God website.
Though Sheri is an ordained minister and possesses degrees in Christian Counseling and Church Ministry, she does not let degrees or titles define her.
Sheri and her husband Anthony reside in Florida and live and breath to simply do God’s will in sharing the good news about Jesus Christ. They have five adult children and three precious grandchildren.
With an inherent desire to Share the Lord with People, in addition to being the President of Pausing With God Ministries, Inc; Sheri founded and created the SLP Company. Sheri's heart beats to encourage women of all ages, that in all you do; don’t to Forget To Pause!
Sheri is also available for seminars, conferences, evangelistic outreaches, youth events, bible studies, workshops or book signings at your event(s).
