The term double-minded comes from the Greek word dipsuchos, meaning “a person with two minds or souls.” Apostle James when he was addressing double mindness with the second century Christians certainly did not view it as someone having two minds and two souls.
In James 1:8, the Apostle writes, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." James is not referring to two souls or two minds instead he speaks about indecisiveness and how it negatively impacts a person's life .
The Apostle goes on to say , "That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does” (James 1:6–8).
Merriam Webster defines indecisiveness to mean:
not settling an issue.
(of a person) not having or showing the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively.synonym: hesitant.
A double minded person in the Christian sense is someone who have not made a solid decision to live righteously or to consistently follow Christ teachings. Jesus had in mind such a person when He spoke of the one who tries to serve two masters (Matthew 6:24).
If you are living a indecisive life style that is trying to merge righteous and unrighteous living and embracing and merging lukewarm, vain, sugar coated philosophies of men with the Gospel of Jesus Christ than you are a double minded person. If you are rejecting fiery truth messages believing it is legalistic or judgmental you are a double minded person. This is a sad way to live as there is no stability in one who has a wavering mind.
It is not to late to change. Reflect on your life and be transparent with God about how you have been living. He is a merciful God and will deal with you in love.
You're most welcome 😊❤
