Ears and Tongue
Poem for the 12th Sunday after Trinity: O Word made flesh, whose love did not disdain To put Your finger in a deaf man’s ear And spit and touch the tongue inside his mouth That his impeded speech might be made clear, Without Your gospel word, we cannot hear; Without true hearing, we cannot believe; Without our faithful hearing of Your word, Our tongues are doomed to flatter and deceive. So open up our ears to hear, we pray, And bring us where Your faithful preachers preach The only word that will enable us To witness to Your works with holy speech. © 2007 Kathryn Ann Hill
