A profound statement in the Bible but yet not an unusual one to those who have placed themselves in a position to hear. Elijah climbed to the mountain top to meet with God. He heard loud rumbles, felt great winds and saw fire but said the voice of God was not in them. It was in the whisper of silence that His voice came to him again. He turned away from the noise but it was the gentle whisper that caught his attention and so it is with us today.
We have great noise in the sound of our hearing and many visual glimpses to distract. Many think it to be His voice. But it is only in the silence His whisper speaks volumes to our soul. Many times in the Bible we are told to wait on the Lord. It is not because He would be late but that unless we calm down, take a deep breath and reverence the moment that is about to happen we will miss it.
We will not hear the whisper or feel the touch, we will not understand the wisdom or perceive knowledge being imparted. Elijah was able to discern the voice of God from all the commotion around Him. May we with hearts open to His Presence, eyes focused on His goodness and ears attentive to His whisper know He is ever present, ever caring and ever ready to speak to our needs.
