Introduction
The African man (Simon of Cyrene, present day Libya in Africa) who helped the Messiah
carry his cross on the Way of Sorrows
A prophetic picture of co-labourers with
Christ (cross bearing saints of the last days)
in a world of sorrow:
Bent over in pain,
tired and thirsty, our Lord
dragged the cross along the plain,
crossed the path of traders and
vendors, who looked on curious
and some were furious
'cause of the crowd and noise
across the terrain.
Blood dropped as rain
from his pores darkening the
sun scorched soil.
Women staggering behind,
heard not the noise and saw
not the crowd, their loud wails
carried for miles by the wind as sails,
and their watery eyes stayed fixed on
his blood drenched frame.
Carrying the cross,
he fell down in pain 'cause
he was weakened by the walk
without refrain.
Simon of Cyrene
forced on the Way of Sorrows,
helped carry the cross of the
man of sorrows burdened with dross.
The African was God's man,
a sign of God's plan, that
cross-bearing ones of continental
dark realms of no fame,
will arise and share in the
Messiah's suffering and shame.
Who are they?
They are pilgrims of every race,
journeying to their heavenly place;
Saints who abide with the
Light of the World,
his torch bearing soldiers of war
to preach the Good News,
heal the sick and cast out demons.
His co-labourers,
steadfast in the true fast;
To love and care for those in lack.
Steadfast to keep unstained
from the world,
to care for fatherless
and widowed ones in distress;
Now that's pure and faultless religion!
