A Daily Devotional
Luke 23: 55-56 (NIV) The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
Jesus was gone. The disciples, the women, the families—all had to deal with the reality of His death. They could not wish it away or pretend it didn’t happen. They saw him die. The least they could do was apply spice and perfume to his dead body. The men had done what they could on Friday, the day he was killed. Their religion forbid travel on Saturday so the ladies would go and finish the awful task... Sunday. Saturday was a long day of hopeless waiting.
The spice and perfume ladies only knew what to do with a dead body. They had no clue of the empty tomb or triumph over death. I cannot imagine death without Christian hope or faith. Saturday must have been the toughest day in the world.
My prayer today is for all who are unsure about their Christian faith or haven’t yet made a decision to follow Jesus. You do not have to spend eternity in a hole somewhere. Because Jesus lives, eternal life can be yours! Someone is praying for you. Hope and faith will come alive in you! Say yes to God today! Amen.
